Kalaimaamunivar Rev. Msgr. S.M. George
A visionary and pioneer, the founder of Kalai Kaviri Cultural Undertakings, Rev. Msgr. S.M. George, made historical and indelible impressions on Indian Cultural promotion. His globally acknowledged and monumental contributions in promoting the Fine Arts of our sacred land, realized through his vision, creativity, genius, commitment and prophetic perspective make him unparalleled. He founded Kalai Kaviri Communication Centre in 1977 and was its Director till 1996; founded Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts in 1996 and was its Secretary / Director and Principal till 2002; founded the World’s First Off-campus Degree Programme in Bharatanatyam in 2004 and was its first Director till he passed away in 2008. Revered and admired by the art lovers, academicians, politicians, social reformers, religious heads and people at large, as a trend-setter, he brought the prestigious Bharatanatyam to the access of the Common Man, elevated it to the highest Academic status up to Ph.D. level in order to perpetuate this Gurukula art, disseminated it around the world through Off-campus University Degree Courses, highlighted the Communicative Dimension of the Indian Dance and Music and their perennial share in elevating the urges of the people, and inculturated the Biblical values through Literature, Dance and Music, enriching religion and culture mutually. Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts gratefully remembers and pays homage to Kalaimaamunivar Rev. Msgr. S.M. George, the architect and brain behind this unique and history-making institution Kalai Kaviri, for all that he has been to raise this cultural centre to its present academic glory. May he continue to sustain and guide us from heaven to uphold his vision
