Mentor – Mentee
At Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, the mentor-mentee system plays a crucial role in fostering our students’ academic and personal development. This structured program is designed to provide guidance, support, and encouragement, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive in their educational and emotional well-being.
The mentoring system has been active in the college since 2016. Over the years, it has developed meticulously, with careful attention given to various aspects of student growth and well-being. Every faculty member of the college serves as a mentor to their assigned group of mentees. Each monthly meeting is designed around a specific agenda focused on behavioural growth and positive qualities.
Mentoring Sessions Overview
The mentoring sessions are scheduled on the third first day of every month as per the college calendar. On this day, mentors and mentees meet for a structured one-hour session, and these meetings are an integral part of our student support system. Each mentor is assigned a specific group of mentees and is responsible for overseeing their academic progress, personal growth, and overall well-being. The mentor-mentee ratio in the college is approximately 1:10, allowing for personalised guidance.
Each session is centred around a specific topic, carefully chosen to address the needs and challenges of the students. Topics include developing a positive attitude, overcoming failure, goal setting, time management, healthy relationships, stress management, etc., all pertaining to issues faced by college students. These themes are designed to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to succeed academically and personally.
Mentor Responsibilities
Dr U.Lynda, Assistant Professor of English – Co-ordinator
Documentation: Mentors are responsible for maintaining detailed records of their mentees. This includes academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities, any personal challenges faced, and academic progress. These documents are essential for tracking the mentee’s development and providing tailored guidance.
Guidance and Support: Mentors provide personalized advice and support to their mentees. They help students navigate academic challenges, manage time effectively, and set achievable goals. Mentors also serve as a point of contact for students who need additional support or resources, directing them to counsellors and appropriate resources based on their specific needs. This referral process ensures that students receive targeted assistance, further enhancing their ability to address challenges and achieve their goals.
Confidentiality and Trust: Mentors create a safe and trusting environment where students feel comfortable sharing their concerns. The mentor-mentee relationship is built on mutual respect, and confidentiality is strictly maintained.
Active Participation: Mentees are encouraged to actively participate in the mentoring sessions. This includes being prepared for discussions, engaging with the session topics, and applying the lessons learned to their academic and personal lives.
Open Communication: Mentees are expected to communicate openly with their mentors about their academic progress, challenges, and any personal issues that may affect their studies. This transparency allows mentors to provide more effective guidance.
The mentor-mentee system at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts is a cornerstone of our commitment to student success. Through regular interactions, personalized guidance, and structured sessions, we aim to empower our students to achieve their full potential. The program not only supports academic achievement but also fosters personal growth, resilience, and a sense of community within the college.
