Extension Activities
In our college, several extension activities are conducted under various committees, including NSS (National Service Scheme), Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Water and Environment Club, Gender Club, Anti-Drug Club, and Road Safety Club. The NSS, in particular, actively participates each year in various awareness campaigns and community welfare initiatives organized by the government, the Tiruchirappalli district administration, and the Tiruchirappalli Corporation. These include Swachh Bharat campaigns, awareness parades, marathons, street plays, and awareness songs to support government projects and raise social awareness within the city of Tiruchirappalli.
Our students take part in events and campaigns throughout the year for special observances like Road Safety Week, Population Day, Food Safety Day, World Water Day, Earth Day, World Rivers Day, World Ozone Day, and World Environment Day. Through these activities, they raise awareness in government and government-aided schools, across municipal areas, and in various community spaces.
In particular, the Water and Environment Club actively engages in initiatives to preserve local water bodies within Tiruchirappalli district. These efforts include safeguarding water sources like Uyyakondan Canal, protecting the Cauvery River, cleaning the Cauvery riverbank, and maintaining water bodies like the Teppakulam tank in Tiruchirappalli and other nearby water resources.
Our college actively engages in extension activities, particularly focused on environmental preservation and community awareness. Initiatives include planting palm seeds in ponds and lake areas, tree planting during monsoon season, and maintaining cleanliness in these areas. We also conduct awareness campaigns like “Say No to Plastic, Use Cloth Bags” with slogans such as “A cloth bag is our identity; a plastic bag is a disgrace.” To spread this message, students perform street plays in high-traffic public areas, especially at Chathiram and Central Bus Stations.
During Diwali, students perform street plays promoting the message “Reduce Firecrackers, Grow Plants” in government, government-aided, and private schools, as well as in public spaces, raising awareness on eco-friendly celebrations. In collaboration with the Tiruchirappalli City Police, our students have been continuously performing road safety awareness street plays since 2013–14 as part of Road Safety Week. These efforts use awareness songs and street dramas to convey government programs to the public effectively.
Additionally, under the Gender Club, legal awareness street plays are performed in partnership with the Tiruchirappalli District Judiciary. These plays focus on topics such as women’s education, violence against women, and women’s protection laws, reaching audiences in public spaces, consumer parks, and municipal parks. In collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, our students perform in Tiruchirappalli and Perambalur districts under the guidance of judicial authorities, raising legal awareness on women’s education, protection laws, and violence against women for students, the public, and women in particular.
Our students also organize awareness events on topics like food safety and International Yoga Day. Through these various Part IV extension activities, our college demonstrates a strong commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
Our students have recently been commended by the District Collector for their efforts in performing anti-drug awareness street plays and awareness songs. They have also been recognized for their outstanding work in environmental protection, including activities like safeguarding water bodies, planting seeds and saplings, and cleaning ponds and lakes. It is noteworthy that our students’ dedication to these initiatives has earned appreciation from District Collectors for their exemplary commitment to these causes.
