Sr. Dr. Margaret Bastin, MA, M.Phil.,Ph.D., Indian Music M.A., (G&C)
Principal, Kalai Kaviri College Of Fine Arts, (from 2003)Sr. Dr. Margaret Bastin holds the distinction of being the first religious nun to earn a doctorate in South Indian Classical Music. Her academic journey and achievements reflect her dedication to the advancement of Indian music and her passion for teaching.
Academic and Professional Contributions:
- Member of Academic Boards: She is an esteemed member of the Academic Board of Studies at Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.
- Examiner: She has contributed to academia as a Board of Examiners member at Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal; Madras University, Chennai; and Tamil University, Tanjore.
- Research Advisor: Recognized by Bharathidasan University, she has guided numerous scholars pursuing their Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Indian Music, fostering research and innovation in the field.
Her leadership at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts has strengthened its reputation as a premier institution for fine arts education, particularly in promoting South Indian Classical Music at a global level.
Dr P. Natarajan
Principal (2015–2025) & Associate Professor of Vocal MusicDr. P. Natarajan is a distinguished vocal musician renowned for his expertise in Carnatic, devotional, light, and folk music. His invaluable contributions to Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts include music composition for dance and musical performances, song recordings for various events, and orchestra training for students. Serving as the Head of the Department of Music since 2010, Dr. Natarajan has been pivotal in shaping the department’s success.
As Principal, he demonstrated exceptional administrative qualities, leading the college to achieve many accolades and milestones. His doctoral research, titled “The Role of Seerkazhi Govindarajan in Tamizhisai,” reflects his deep academic and cultural commitment to Tamil music traditions. Dr. Natarajan has lent his voice to numerous CD albums produced by the college and other organizations. A crowning achievement of his career is being honored for composing the music for Bharathidasan University’s anthem, based on a lyric by Bharathidasan – a testament to his exceptional talent, leadership, and dedication to Tamil music.
