The Alumni Association of Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Tiruchirappalli, organised a One-Day Workshop on Music and Dance on 7 August 2026, from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The workshop aimed to enrich the participants’ knowledge and understanding of Indian music and dance traditions.
Dr. Lalita Santanam, Assistant Professor of Music, VELS University, Chennai, and Director of Nrithyakalamandir Fine Arts Academy, Chennai, served as a resource person and conducted an insightful session on “தானம் (Thanam)”, explaining its musical significance and practical aspects.
Mr. Karthik Venkatesan, M.A., grandson of Kovai Simhakural Semmal P. Palaniappa Nattuvanar, delivered an engaging session on “பரதம் – நேற்று, இன்று, நாளை” (Bharatham – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow), highlighting the tradition, development and contemporary dimensions of Bharatanatyam.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for participants to gain practical knowledge, interact with experienced practitioners and deepen their appreciation of the rich traditions of Indian music and dance. The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation and meaningful interaction among the resource persons and participants.
